Fuel Efficient Cars for Road Trips

Fuel Efficient Cars for Road TripsFuel prices in the UK are on the rise. They have been for a long time and they will continue to be for even longer. Many drivers are being forced off the road due to the rocketing prices, while others are swapping their gas guzzling machines for more energy efficient ones. This is an ideal option for all road users who frequently use their cars for long distance drives such as commutes to work or even long and winding road trips.

Cars for traveling distances

When you go on a road trip, you want to be comfortable because you are going to be traveling a long distance, sometimes for days on end. With this in mind, you need to make sure your car is big enough for you and your companions. Remember the car has to seat a certain number of people as well as have space for luggage. It should be both easy to drive and be maneuverable and in-built GPS and CD players are always a bonus for those long journeys.

The top fuel efficient cars

The Kia Rio hatchback is a conventional five seater and offers 88.3 mpg, plenty of luggage space and great value for money.

The Skoda Fabia hatchback gives 83 mpg, but it also has energy recovering brakes and a fuel saving stop and start system.

Another fuel efficient car is the Fiat Punto Evo MultiJet turbodiesel. This practical car runs on diesel and gives 78 mpg, making it an economical buy as well.

This Ford Fiesta hatchback is lightweight and fun to drive. The five seater family car delivers a fuel efficiency of 76 mpg and the car works out cheaper because there is no road tax on it.

The Peugeot 207 Oxygo hatchback is free of road tax. It looks good and has good fuel economy giving 74 mpg, though it does not have a lot of boot space.

Other fuel efficient cars in this line-up include the Hyundai i20 (76.4 mpg), the Citroen DS3 1.6 e-HDi 90 Airdream (78 mpg) and the Vauxhall Corsa (80.7 mpg).

The car that you choose for your road trip need not be the best, the flashiest or the coolest. But if it is fuel efficient, you will be able to travel on the road even more.
