A close up photo of a film strip in retro look. With some huge potential blockbusters on the horizon, 2013 looks set to be a great year for new films. Whether you’re an avid cinema buff, or you just like to see a movie or two in your spare time, there’s bound to be something to suit everyone’s interests.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

Based on a novel by J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is the second of three planned Hobbit films. Set before the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug follows Bilbo Baggins as he and a group of dwarves go on a quest to get their gold back from Smaug, a dragon who has tried to claim it for his own. The second part of this long awaited trilogy is set to be one of the biggest of 2013.

World War Z

Starring Brad Pitt, World War Z is a film about a United Nations employee who sets out to try and stop the outbreak of a zombie pandemic. This film tries to accurately depict what would happen if there really was a deadly zombie virus spreading around the Earth. There is bound to be a lot of action, and a lot of gore, in store for viewers of this movie.

The Great Gatsby

There are a lot of great adaptations coming in 2013, and this one should be no exception. The Great Gatsby has been adapted from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel. Set in the swinging jazz age of the 1920s, there are bound to be a lot of beautiful costumes and, since it’s directed by Baz Lurhmann who brought us Moulin Rouge and the 1996 adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, you can be sure it will be visually stunning. This tragic tale of love, loss, and high society is set to pull in the crowds in 2013.

With these amazing titles being just a handful in a sea of great films set to be released in 2013, you can bet that it will be a gigantic year in the history of cinema. So, at least try to go and see a few new movies this year.
